The thunder of leaves

They say that in Calgary if you do not have time to your door, watch your back door. Well, it was One of these days fall dynamics.

I was standing on my porch, soaking up the beauty of golden poplars around our house and enjoy the air costs fall. The sky of my front door was a mixture of cumulus and a little blue. But a closer examination of clouds has shown how quickly they moved. I do not know that the weather service had predicted gusts of up to 100 kilometers an hour of the day.

Suddenly, a gust of wind sent all the fallen leaves in sight in the swirling traffic. If I looked out the back door, I would have seen the storm coming. Leaves filled the air making every movement visible in the wind swirls, eddies, upwelling currents, the repressions and currents. It was an incredible show.

Even more amazing is the sound. If leaves could thunder, it would were. The noise drowned leaves any wind noise. I stood on the porch breath.

Mix through the fallen leaves on the sidewalk or yard in the fall has always been one of my favorite things. I love the sound! For me it is the best part of the experience. I do not think I met someone who did not like the sound of mixing through the leaf litter or who has a good memory of jumping into a big pile of leaves as a kid.

When I thought about the sound of the leaves after the storm, it reminded me of white noise. White noise is like the "shhhhhh" you hear when you tune your radio between stations. Technically, it represents all frequencies, or a wide frequency rang as a whole. It may also be a background noise that you know, like a fan.

The brain response to sound repetitive the merits hearing called habituation. You may have heard or know people who live near train tracks or a busy road who no longer has its trains or cars. The noise does not bother them. Thanks to the addictive auditory brain also records more sound as important or which creates an emotional reaction to noise.

The white noise in the background can help mask distracting sounds that you do not want listen. For example, if you're in a hotel and voices from the next room to disturb you, turning on a fan or playing a CD with white noise recorded can be useful in blocking the sound. If you work in a busy office with cubicles and are distracted by the noise that makes it difficult to concentrate on your work, a fan or white noise recorded may be useful to block the sound. If you live by railroad or a busy road and the noise bothers you, the white noise can help mask the sounds. White noise can also be useful for those who suffer from insomnia, tinnitus or ringing in ears. If you work with your doctor or an audiologist for the treatment of these conditions, you could ask him about the possibility of trying a noise white.

The sounds of nature like a white noise, may also be useful to mask distracting sounds. Do you like sitting on the beach and listening to waves? The sound of waves, streams, waterfalls, rain, the rustling of the leaves are examples of a version of the nature of white noise.

Hope you will find some fun moments to shuffle through the leaves in the fall. Maybe we'll meet as we zigzagged along the trailing Fortunately sidewalk.
